Interior Design Tips For The Bedroom (PART 2)

Flooring

One mistake more and more people are making, is selecting cold flooring; ceramic tiles, marble etc. Use laminated flooring, wood or carpet! Imagine stepping out of bed on a cold wintery morning on even colder flooring! But if you already have cold flooring, put a rug/carpet near your bedside. Makes those early mornings steps a bit more bearable.

Curtains

Most people go for dark curtains when designing their bedroom. The thought process is correct, it will be a little bit darker making it easier to sleep. But if your walls are already dark, then go for light coloured curtains.

Lighting

Use lampshades, pin lights and up lights. These type of lights give a nice mood to your room, especially for when you want to rest.

Interior Design Tips For The Bedroom (PART 1)

The bedroom, a private place where you relax and sleep. Of course the bed is the most important part of the room, but aside from the bed, you need to think about the layout/design of the room as a whole. We spend most of our time in that room, so it needs to comfy, yet well-decorated.

Colours

When selecting a colour, consider using warm, natural, pastel colour. That is for walls, ceiling and furniture fittings. Do not use bright colours, as it’s not stimulating for when you want to sleep! Don’t forget about furniture and fabric, they need to compliment each other.

Wall decoration

Make sure to choose good wall decor in your bedroom. Some people go for wallpapers, whilst others get a wall artistically painted. Whichever you do, make sure it compliments the room and again… avoid bright colours.

Need office space at home? (Part 2)

Once or even whilst this is being installed you can start thinking about your screens. How do you want these attached? Hinged? Sliding? Stand alone? Which-ever way you want will be the deciding factor on your frames and also what kind of material you want to fill them.

Once you have made this decision it’s time for the ‘pretty’ part – the style that you have chosen to cover up your office. You could pick a material, if you would like a semi-transparent material, you could pick a plastic, stained/frosted glass or even a fabric. If you want an opaque material, you could do the whole thing in wood or MDF, this could then been stained or painted. If you want something a bit more high end and pricey, you could chose ‘magic/smart glass’ which changes from opaque to transparent when a current is applied through it.

Once you have chosen the interior of the screens you can have these measured and fitted, then voila!

Need office space at home? (Part 1)

So you need office space at home, perhaps you work from home, or you simply want a place to store paperwork and do your banking. However, you don’t want to give a whole room away to what can become a paperwork zone – if you’re not careful.

We suggest you have a multi-purpose room, this could be a study/quiet room, a study/library or even a study/play room – but this might work out more complicated… What we are going to propose is that you make the room a secret study. You do this by having screens to hide away the office.

Start by clearing the room completely, you then need to decide where best to have a built in desk, cupboards and filing cabinets plus anything else you might require. You could even have a built in cupboard to store away your office chair!

Once you have decided where this needs to be, you need to get this designed and installed. If you are feeling brave, perhaps try to DIY, if not get a professional in for the job. The material is up to you, whether you use MDF or wood or something else, it will all depend on how you want this to look and your budget.

Why Sofas and Chairs can make a Big Statement

A sofa or a set of chairs are always important in a home and they actually affect a guest’s impression of your property, so choose sofas and chairs wisely.

Some sofas can work as features of a room, while others blend in completely, and the sofa you choose should relate to the impression you want to give off. If you want your furniture to stand out and create a theme then you may want to choose a chair that suits the type of furniture you have in your home. For example if you have a living room that’s traditional, mainly including vintage wooden furniture, then a leather wingback couch could be a nice addition, and it benefits from the same traditional design.

A more modern room may benefit from a sofa that’s curved, detailed or colourful and you may want to bring the colours of your walls together with the colour of your sofa. Of course you may want your sofa to stand out completely from the tone of your home, and deciding on a really bold colour in a rather mild room can draw attention, and make the sofa a real imposing feature in a room.
